Today is National PFAPA Day, and this year it hits

Today is National PFAPA Day, and this year it hits a little closer to home. ❤️
This spring, after a long season of mysterious illnesses, fevers, and wondering what was going on with our girl, Claire was diagnosed with PFAPA.

PFAPA is a pediatric inflammatory autoimmune disease that causes recurring high fevers, often along with sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, mouth ulcers, fatigue, joint pain, and just feeling really, really sick. The flares occur monthly, often with little warning, and then the child can feel completely well in between episodes.

Claire has been such a trooper through all of it. Watching your child get sick again and again without knowing why is hard, and getting a diagnosis doesn’t necessarily mean having all the answers. We’re still learning what PFAPA looks like for her and navigating what each month may bring when she flares.

But through the uncertainty, we are resting in this: God is sovereign. He sees our girl, He knows every fever before it comes, and He is carrying Claire — and us — through every flare, every appointment, every hard night, and every unknown.

We’re so proud of our brave girl and grateful for the people who have prayed for her, encouraged her, and walked alongside our family. 💕

After losing our sweet dog, Chapter, we all needed a little more JOY! Introducing our new golden doodle, Joy. She’s small, sweet, and spunky. We’re all smitten with her!

Back to school today! We’re ready and excited for another year of learning and growing at Commission Leadership Academy and at home.

The kids will be in Levels 3, 4, and 6. I’m back as Dean of the Grammar School and will be soaking up my last year having all 3 of my kids in the Grammar School with me. I’m looking forward to all that God is going to do in and through them this year ❤️

These kiddos have had the best (and busiest!) week

These kiddos have had the best (and busiest!) week! They spent their days at Camp Thrive and their evenings at VBS. The days were filled with fun times with friends, games, songs, Bible stories, sports, crafts, and great leaders who poured into them. They loved every minute of it—and I have a feeling they'll all be sleeping very well tonight!

I’m so grateful for your love for God, your devotion to our family, and your endless curiosity for learning, history, and adventure.

With broken hearts, we said goodbye to our sweet g

With broken hearts, we said goodbye to our sweet golden doodle, Chapter. At just two years old, Chapter was diagnosed with terminal lymphoma. We are incredibly grateful for the joy, laughter, and unconditional love he brought to our family. He wasn’t “just a dog”—he was a treasured part of our lives, our adventure buddy, and a faithful companion who filled our home with so much joy.

Thank you to everyone who prayed, checked in, and loved us so well over these past weeks. We are thankful for every extra day we were given with our precious Chap. Our hearts ache, and we miss him deeply, but we are thankful for the memories and the gift of having loved such a special boy. We thank God for the gift of pets.

10 fun facts about Chapter:
1. He loved riding in the car and would sit properly in the seat like a human.
2. He could be dead asleep across the house and if I opened the jar of peanut butter he would spring up and leap to the kitchen and sit at my feet, hoping for a spoonful.
3. He had incredibly long eye lashes that we needed to trim every month
4. He loved his LaLa, Pop Pop, and Aunt Jacey. But mostly LaLa :)
5. He was the mascot for my monthly Literary Society and only ever chewed one book.
6. He was the best hockey watching companion. He was a devout NY Rangers fan and was disappointed in their performance the two years he was alive. He wanted the Canes to win the Stanley Cup this year.
7. He was very much a guard dog, which is unusual for a doodle. He loved people, but would protect his family and our house from other dogs with ferocious-sounding barks. Delivery men would be afraid of his bark and then laugh when his fluff-ball head appeared in the window.
8. He had many nicknames: Chap, Chappy, Chapstick, Grandpa Chap, Knucklehead, Reginald Chapstick III, etc.
9. He would channel his zoomie energy and run laps around our yard like a race track.
10. He loved snow! He would romp and run and sniff and roll around.

If you know me, you know I’m a planner! We sat down as a family and chatted about our summer and what we’d like to do, go, see, and try and came up with this list for our fridge. I divided it into three categories:
🍅 Ketchup — Catch Up: Projects, chores, and tasks we’d like to tackle or finally get around to.
🌭 Mustard — Must Do: Our family’s top priorities and the experiences we definitely don’t want to miss.
🥪 Mayo — May Do: The “it would be nice” list. These are fun extras and ideas to enjoy if time allows.

There’s nothing better to do in the summer than read a good book, am I right?
Books are my love language and last week during our end of the year staff meetings I gifted my teachers a curated list of book ideas to read over the summer - plus a cute bookmark, of course!
I titled the list Summer Reading* Recommendations
*totally optional; by no means required; just for fun

The list includes two categories: 1. Book suggestions for when you WANT to think about school and 2. Book suggestions for when you DON’T WANT to think about school :)
